Before the cable touches the port
Clear the desk of unknown storage media. Keep only the cable you labeled for this device.
Confirm the companion app version against your last trusted note — not against a social post.
Decide the session goal in one sentence. If the goal expands mid-session, stop and restart the list.
During the sync
Verify firmware channel and device fingerprints on-device before approving any host prompt.
Compare receive addresses character groups slowly; speak them if you learn better aloud.
Refuse unexpected permission dialogs. Unexpected means not on your pre-written list.
Close-out
Eject cleanly, power the device down, return it to storage, and write the date plus a one-line outcome. The written close-out is what makes the next sync faster without becoming sloppy.
